Lap 55 — The new surface at Daytona is providing plenty of grip as cars and their drivers appear comfortable racing three-wide at 200 mph into the turns. Lap 54—The field continues to pair up and Jeff Burton and Clint Bowyer are proving to be the best on the track. Lap 52 — Kevin Harvick had dropped back to eighth. Jeff Burton gets a push from Clint Bowyer and find the lead. Lap 50—GREEN FLAG: With 25 laps to go, 14 cars take the green flag as Jimmie Johnson leads the field from the outside. The No. 48 didn’t waste much time dropping down in front of Greg Biffle. Lap 49—Kyle Busch is out of the race. Jimmie Johnson will lead the field to green. Lap 48—YELLOW FLAG NO. 4: Michael Waltrip gets loose, goes into the wall and slides through the grass. Lap 46 — Jimmie Johnson and Greg Biffle find the front as Jamie McMurray backs off the front to find air. The No. 1 appears to be running hot. Lap 45—Jimmie Johnson and Greg Biffle pair up to go 3-4. Lap 44 — Jamie McMurray and Kurt Busch connect to challenge Jeff Burton and Kevin Harvick for the front row. Lap 42—Kyle Busch is heading to the garage. Lap 41—Kevin Harvick and Jeff Burton continue to be the strongest pair on the track as the two find the front once again. Lap 40 — Jeff Gordon finds a friend in Clint Bowyer and gets pushed to the front. Lap 39—GREEN FLAG: Jeff Burton slides down in front of Harvick as Kyle Busch makes a charge. Lap 38 — Jeff Burton with lead the field to green with his teammate Kevin Harvick on the front row. Lap 37—Both Mark Martin and Kyle Busch are headed to pit road. Most of the damage to the No. 18 is minimal. Denny Hamlin heads to pit road and reports he thinks he drove over something. Lap 36 — YELLOW FLAG NO. 3: Mark Martin and Kyle Busch connect high on the track and sustain damage. Lap 34—GREEN FLAG: Jeff Burton leads the field to green with 41 laps to go. Lap 33 — Carl Edwards is out of the race. Lap 30—Dale Junior is out of the race but reports he had a great time on a fast race track this evening. Lap 29 — Jimmie Johnson and Clint Bowyer pit and take tires. Denny Hamlin takes four tires and fuel. Lap 27 — YELLOW FLAG NO. 2: After a more aggressive start, Carl Edwards gets into Dale Junior, causing a series of events that sent several cars spinning. Juan Montoya, Regan Smith and Joey Logano have damage. Lap 26—GREEN FLAG: Jeff Burton leads the field to green, followed by Kevin Harvick, Matt Kenseth, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Jimmie Johnson. 9:02 p.m.—Cars are back on the track and warming up for a 50-lap sprint to the finish. 8:58 p.m.—Carl Edwards reports the new surface and style of racing requires a higher level of trust with other drivers as they pair up around the track. 8:52 p.m.—All cars are on pit road for a short break and adjustments. Lap 25 —YELLOW FLAG NO. 1: Jeff Burton leads the first leg as drivers and their teams take a break. Lap 24—Kasey Kahne remains the only driver out of the race. Jeff Burton leads. Jimmie Johnson and Joey Logano hook up and move up the field. Lap 23 — Dale Junior wont go away and finds the lead once again only to give it back to Jeff Burton. Lap 22 — Kyle Busch runs out front as the Shootout approaches its break at Lap 25. Lap 21—Michael Waltrip turns a top speed of 206 mph. Lap 20—Jeff Burton pairs up with Carl Edwards as the two drivers shoot through the field and into the front row. Lap 18—Kyle Busch passes Dale Earnhardt Jr. and takes the lead to become the fourth race leader of the Shootout. Lap 17 — Dale Junior pairs up with Kyle Busch and shoots to the front. Lap 16 — Dale Earnhardt Jr. finds second. Lap 15—Dale Earnhardt Jr. drops back to fifth as Carl Edwards continues to do battle for the lead with Jeff Burton. Lap 14—Jeff Burton continues to lead, followed by Carl Edwards and Kurt Busch. Lap 13 — Carl Edwards moves into second and is being challenged by Kurt Busch. Lap 12—Tony Stewart heads to the front and gets a push from Jeff Burton. Lap 11—Speeds have reached 204 mph as Dale Earnhardt Jr. takes back the lead. Lap 10 — Jeff Burton moves to the front with Dale Junior on his bumper. Lap 9 — Jimmie Johnson has gained 16 positions since the start of the race. He’s currently in fifth. Lap 8—Kasey Kahne says the car is toast as it sits on pit road with the hood up. Lap 7—Tony Stewart finds a new drafting partner in Denny Hamlin as the two run 3-4. Lap 6—Kasey Kahne has dropped off the pace and appears to have an issue with his car. He’s headed to pit road. Lap 5 — A battle for the lead is taking place as Kasey Kahne hooks up with Denny Hamlin. Lap 4 — Clint Bowyer and Dale Earnhardt Jr. are making good use of two-car bump drafting. Lap 3 — Clint Bowyer continues to lead as Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Tony Stewart work to make a pass. Lap 2 — The cars are staying grouped together as Clint Bowyer and Dale Earnhardt Jr. lead the field. Lap 1 — Dale Earnhardt Jr. gets off to a good start as cars begin to pair up early.
